Gary Marcus: “Anybody who thinks LLMs are a direct route to the sort AGI that could fundamentally transform society for the good is kidding themselves. This does not mean that the field of neural networks is dead, or that deep learning is dead. LLMs are just one form of deep learning, and maybe others — especially those that play nicer with symbols – will eventually thrive. Time will tell. But this particular approach has limits that are clearer by the day.”
The Verge: “Liquid Glass is inspired by Apple’s visionOS software and can adapt to light and dark environments. When you swipe up on the iOS 26 lockscreen there’s a glass edge, and elements throughout the OS have glass edges to them. Even the camera app has the glass feel, with menus that are transparent and features that are overlaid on top of the camera feed. Liquid Glass uses real-time rendering and will dynamically react to movement. Apple is using it on buttons, switches, sliders, text, media controls, and even larger surfaces like tab bars and sidebars. Apple has redesigned its controls, toolbars, and navigation within apps to fit this new Liquid Glass design.”
FT: “Take it outside with a walking meeting…This is an intentional meeting expressly scheduled outside. There is something about an uninterrupted walk from Point A to Point B with a colleague that is particularly conducive to creative thought, tricky conversations, and strategic plotting. The health benefits are obvious. So too is its central advantage — and I cannot stress this enough — of not being in the office. But the point of the walking meeting is not to bunk off or get your steps in. Great minds have been fans: the late Steve Jobs was a staunch advocate of the walking meeting. And a Stanford University study in 2014 found that walking boosts creativity both in real time and also afterwards.”
Morgan Housel lists examples of bad advice: “Allow your expectations to grow faster than your income. Envy others’ success without having a full picture of their lives. Pursue status at the expense of independence. Associate net worth with self-worth (for you and others). Mimic the strategy of people who want something different than you do. Choose who to trust based on follower count.”
TMCnet webinar intro: “The traditional ways customers interact with businesses are breaking down. For decades, brands have relied on four main channels: websites, apps, call centers, and physical locations. But a new channel is emerging – one that will change everything. This fifth channel: customers represented by their own AI agents. These intelligent assistants will handle tasks on their behalf – shopping, booking, verifying, switching providers – all without the customer lifting a finger. And when that happens, brands won’t just be marketing to people anymore. They’ll be negotiating with machines.”
