Jason Lemkin on SaaS startup mistakes: “Not hiring a truly great co-founder. Not hiring a 100% committed co-founder. Not carefully managing the burn rate. Hiring any VP you don’t truly 100% believe is great. Being too slow. Not wanting to “do sales”. Not going all-in on business development and partners. Raising too much, or too little, capital.”
FT: “Growth is difficult to achieve, particularly over the long term. Only one in 10 S&P 500 companies in 2022 had reported growth above GDP for more than 30 years, according to research from McKinsey. Companies such as Airbnb, Microsoft and Burger King rose to prominence or reinvented themselves during periods of economic turbulence. But how many companies are unwittingly ushering in their Kodak or Blockbuster moment?”
Business Standard: “Google and Meta accounted for over 95 per cent of the Rs 64,500 crore spent on digital media in 2023. They are over one-fourth of the total Indian media and entertainment business.”
Aaron Levie: “The thing that is underpriced right now in software is that AI will meaningfully increase the TAM of many software categories. With AI Agents that do work for people, from coding to reviewing contracts, these are brand new dollars in software spend that didn’t exist before.“
WSJ on Germany: “Economists say the current crisis is worse, because it questions the very foundation of Germany’s export-reliant economic model. In the earlier downturn, China’s economy was growing at around 10% or more a year, absorbing goods and powering global trade and the global economy. Today, China’s economy is growing at half that rate, and global trade volumes have stalled, according to the World Trade Organization. Without fast-growing export markets, Germany’s model “is dead,” said Jacob Kirkegaard, a Brussels-based senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics in Washington, D.C.”
